Polished Concrete | Southeast Wisconsin

When a local public ecology center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was seeking the perfect flooring solution to complement their ecological décor they called Floorcare USA.

The client wanted to integrate on their floor a “too-scale” rendering of the Lake Michigan shoreline and all the inland rivers that then branch off of Lake Michigan in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Southeast Wisconsin shoreline of Lake Michigan.
First the clients concrete surface was tested to determine the type of concrete that was present.
Then the concrete was tested for flatness.
Once the testing was completed, various experiments with proper diamond tooling was performed to get the precise type of concrete diamonds to properly cut the concrete.
Once all the tooling was determined for the clients concrete, an initial prepping grind of the concrete was performed and the polishing process commenced.

Refinement of the concrete is an extremely important aspect of a true grind and polish concrete process; all too often other polishing contractors will “skip steps” in the Polished Concrete process to save some time and money at the expense of a good long term floor.
Floorcare USA does not skip steps when doing polished concrete projects, Floorcare USA performs a true grind and polish in a multi-step, sequential process that truly refines the concrete to achieve the best long term results.

Once 70% of the polished concrete process was completed, the Lake Michigan shoreline and inland rivers were mapped out on the floor to architectural scale and then the floor was concrete dye/stained in a blue/green color to represent lake Michigan and the rivers.
The concrete dye/concrete stain was allowe to react with the concrete and penetrate and then the polished concrete process resumed.
The concrete was sealed/hardened/densified and then a protective guard application was performed and burnished to a mid-level sheen.
The client now has a beautiful concrete floor that is a work of art, meets GREEN building standards, easy to clean and truly beautiful!
